Conan O’Brien will be back at next year’s Academy Awards after creating “remarkable energy around the Oscars”.
Conan O’Brien will return to host the Oscars for a third time in 2027.
The 63-year-old comedian has proven popular with producers, critics and viewers after taking the reins of the Academy Awards in 2025, and after another successful outing at this year’s ceremony in March, it’s confirmed he’ll be back for the 99th edition of the prestigious event in 2027.
In a statement, Craig Erwich – the President of Disney Television Group – said: “Conan has created remarkable energy around The Oscars.
“His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year.
“We’re proud to welcome him back and look forward to what he and the producing team deliver next.”
In a joint statement, producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan – who will be back together for a fourth consecutive year – insisted it will be “really special” to reunite with Conan for the third year in a row when the ceremony returns on March 14, 2027.
They added: “Getting to reunite with Conan O’Brien for a third year at the Oscars is really special.
“He brings that signature humour everyone loves, along with a real warmth and generosity that carry through the entire show
“He’s a true creative partner, someone we trust completely, and someone who makes the whole process genuinely fun, both behind the scenes and on stage.
“We’re incredibly grateful to keep building this together and can’t wait to share what’s next.”
In 2025, when he announced his return for 2026, Conan took a lighthearted dig at Adrien Brody.
He joked he only agreed to return for this year’s ceremony so he could hear the rest of The Brutalist star’s speech after the Best Actor winner was forced to cut it short after speaking for a record-breaking five minutes and 40 seconds.
He quipped: “The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech.”
Conan opened the ceremony with a pre-taped segment, in which he was dressed as Amy Madigan’s Aunt Gladys from Weapons, and then ran through different scenes from the Best Picture nominees, all while being pursued by the killer kids from the film, with the sketch then transitioning to live shots inside the venue of the kids chasing a stuntman as the host stepped out in his tuxedo.
During his monologue, he took no prisoners, with jokes aimed at Timothee Chalamet, Kid Rock, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew,
At the end of the evening, Conan signed off with a touching nod to Martin Short, after his daughter Katherine’s death.
He concluded the ceremony by saying: “It’s been an honour and a joy – we love you, Marty Short. Good night.”
