Jamie Lynn Spears reveals a priest was called to give her daughter last rites after ATV crash

Jamie Lynn Spears has recalled a priest coming to hospital to read her daughter Maddie the last rites following her near-fatal ATV crash.

Jamie Lynn Spears called a priest to give her daughter the last rites before a “miraculous” recovery.

The 35-year-old actress has recalled the terrifying moment Maddie, now 18, almost died in a near-fatal ATV accident in 2017, and there was a moment during her two-day coma at the time that a priest was brought in to administer the Christian faith’s last prayers and ministrations.

However, as she told PEOPLE magazine: “He comes in, and she physically sits up in all her restraints and tubes.

“I’m screaming for the doctors, like ‘Come in here now!’ Even the priest was like, ‘I’ve never seen anything like what’s happening.’

“I knew she was in there and felt all of us praying. We were given a miracle, and I don’t take it for granted.”

The Zoey 101 star admitted that the day of the accident was “the day I thought I’d lost my daughter”, but the then-eight-year-old girl – who she has with ex-boyfriend Casey Aldridge – survived “against all odds”.

Jamie Lynn said: “We were watching her, and we still don’t quite know if she was dodging a dog or what it was.

“She went in the water and me, my father-in-law and my husband [Jamie Watson] ran as fast as we could to go jump in to get her out, but she was stuck under the ATV.”

Maddie ended up underwater in a pond on the family’s property in Fluker, Louisiana, and Jamie Lynn’s mother-in-law called 911 with an ambulance arriving in minutes.

Recalling the moment Maddie was pulled out of the pond, her mother admitted: “It was really not a sight anybody wants to see.

“At that point, she was not breathing. We thought that she had passed.”

Maddie doesn’t remember the accident but noted how her family’s “faith got a lot stronger” after the incident, which came after she had been “begging [Jamie Lynn] for a little sibling”.

While Maddie was in her coma, her mother was “bargaining with God”, offering her arm or leg to get her child “back”.

Jamie Lynn added: “I was like, ‘I’ll have a baby. I’ll have whatever you want.'”

Maddie awoke, and asked her mother if she was “going to give me that baby”, and a few months later she got pregnant with her and her husband’s daughter Ivey, now eight.

Last summer, Maddie joked she was “very accident prone” almost a decade after the accident as she opened up about the crash for the first time.

In a YouTube video exploring her childhood injuries and illnesses, she said: “I did have an accident though. I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed.

“So yeah, I’ve just been very accident-prone. I swear my parents are amazing and they did not do anything to me.”

The teenager noted that early in her life, she was “in and out of hospital” undergoing “treatments all the time” for a range of health issues.

She added: “I was very sick when I was really little. I had bad asthma.”
