Mel C has seemingly dismissed rumours of a Spice Girls feud by insisting all the members are “in touch” and “respectful of each other”.
The 52-year-old singer – real name Melanie Chisholm – opened up the current state of the girl group after they marked 30 years since the release of their debut single Wannabe on Wednesday (08.07.26) after speculation began to swirl about a fall out between Geri Horner and Mel B.
Speaking during an appearance at the Nordoff And Robbins Silver Clef Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Thursday (09.07.26), Mel C told the BBC: “It was a very emotional day yesterday. We’re all in touch obviously, all of the girls, we’re so grateful and respectful of each other.”
It comes after Geri sparked rumours of tensions within the group of former Spice Girls when she posted a picture of them on Instagram and tagged every member apart from Mel B.
Geri shared a picture of the girl group in their hey day and wrote: “30 years of Wannabe. Thank you to my beautiful spice sisters.”
Mel’s name was included but there was no tag which led some fans to speculate she’s been blocked by Geri as the pair no longer appear in each other’s Instagram “following” lists.
The pair have long had a turbulent relationship and Mel C recently reflected on their ups and downs in an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, explaining whenever Geri and Mel B fell out it would affect the whole group.
She described Geri and Mel B as the “leaders” of the band and added: “[They were] really great mates [but] if they had a fallout, it would affect everybody.
“I think because they were both so outspoken.”
During the podcast, Mel C also opened up about her own turbulent moments within the band revealing she almost got kicked out over a row with Victoria Beckham.
She recalled a pivotal moment back in 1996 when she became embroiled in a bust-up with Victoria at the BRIT Awards and she confessed she thought she was going to “lose everything” as the group’s manager Simon Fuller threatened to have her removed from the girl group.
During an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Mel explained: “I went into terror because I thought I was going to lose everything. You know, those dreams as a child, which now were a possibility, I might have f***** it all up …
“It was the BRIT Awards in 1996, which fall around February time …
“We had a few Champagnes … We were going to find our car and whatever the, the situation was where I just turned around and said to Victoria: ‘Oh, f*** off’.”
Mel went on to reveal she didn’t think she had done anything wrong but she found herself in deep trouble the following morning.
She said: “Unbeknownst to me, go home, go to bed, wake up the next morning, and I was in a lot of trouble. I was living with Mel B at the time.
“We were living in Watford, and Geri [Horner] also lived in Watford, and they were both there when I got up. And yeah, they were just disgusted with my behaviour.
“You know when you’ve had a night out, and you wake up in the morning, and you’ve got beer fear, right?. You think: ‘Oh, f***, I know what I did last night’.
“I didn’t even have that. I just woke up going: ‘Oh, last, last night was fun’, where I had completely brushed off that situation.
“But obviously, it had really affected people in a way I hadn’t realised. So I was in trouble.”
Mel explained she then got called in for a meeting with Fuller, who warned her she would lose her place in the band if she every acted out like that again. She said: “Simon wanted to speak to me, and I was told in no uncertain terms if anything ever happened like that again, I would be gone.
“So that completely freaked me out, one, because I didn’t realise I’d done anything that terribly bad, and two, because my actions may have led to me losing everything I’d ever wanted, you know?”
