Gabbriette Bechtel has revealed the three distinctive looks she sported for her wedding to Matty Healy.
Gabbriette Bechtel had one of her vintage dresses “slashed” and modified to be the something old at her wedding.
The 28-year-old model married 1975 frontman Matty Healy in Los Angeles over the weekend, and their celebrations saw her don three distinctive looks from Matières Fecales’ Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran, beginning with a pre-wedding outfit inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The gown was based on a vintage black Martin Margiela dress and had white tulle added for the hem and cascading out of its slashed back.
Gabbriette donned the gown, dubbed the ‘Leigh’ in a nod to her middle name, for her fitting, and the team trimmed the tulle to the right length.
She quipped to Vogue during her fitting: “This is my favourite part, when Steven gets hold of the scissors.
“Is bridal always white? Clearly not. Bridal is whatever you want it to be. I’ve always been a fan of black clothing, and it felt right using this dress that I’ve loved for so long and repurposing it.”
Her after-arty look, The Healy, was a two-piece lamb leather suit with tulle and fur edges, teamed with a Stephen Jones white satin riding hat and white satin curved heel pumps by Christian Louboutin x Matières Fécales.
Gabbriette said: “This is when I’m going to come out [and say], ‘Time to party!’
“With a Champagne. Honestly, I see a little bit of Nicole Kidman or Kylie Minogue going on.”
Her main wedding dress, named the Gabriella, featured hand-pleated white silk taffeta on the bodice with a triple bustle and train, and the bride couldn’t have been happier.
She said: “I feel like a princess. That was the goal.”
The outfits were the first bridal commission for the fashion house and while they were “surprised” to be asked, they quickly realised why Gabbriette wanted to work with them.
The model said: “I’ve always loved designers like Matières Fécales that tell stories through fabric. Their last show was just a full story, and I just felt like they were a perfect match.”
Hannah added: “I think we mainly bonded over our mutual love for extreme beauty and passion for dark glamour.
“We honestly were surprised she came to us, as there are so many great creatives and brands out there doing bridal. It was when we met in person that we understood why she chose us. We share the same vision of beauty, and we articulate fashion in a very human and poetic way.”
