The former View star has been locked in a war of words with the US president for several years and she can’t understand why his “obvious criminal behaviour” hasn’t proven to be a turn off for voters.
She said on The Tangle podcast: “I can’t think of anyone else in my life who supports him, and I don’t understand the people who do. His cruelty is so blatant. His criminal behaviour is so obvious. His misogyny, his racism, his homophobia. He’s just a very dark spirit, and I don’t know why that’s not obvious to the world.”
Rosie relocated to Ireland after Trump was elected president again, and she’s been relieved to find she has a lot of support over there.
She said: “I mean, I think it’s obvious outside of the U.S. because, in Ireland, not one person has said to me that they like him.
“People come over to me and go, ‘Rosie, I’d like to buy you a pint cause we hate him, too.’ And I’m like, ‘Fantastic.’”
While the A League of Their Own actress steers clear of Trump’s supporters, she makes an exception for her good friend Wynnona Judd and the pair simply don’t discuss the former Apprentice star when they get together.
She said: “Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up.
“I give her a grace in a way. She’s had so much in her life with her mom taking her own life and just the the complicated nature of her upbringing. and I really love her, and I care about her, and, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”
Rosie recently described Trump, 80, as a “grifter”, a “con man”, and a “snake oil salesman”.
She said on the Bleep! with Ana Navarro podcast: “If you grew up on Long Island as I did, or in New York City, you knew this your whole life. This was not a surprise.”
Rosie is also bemused by the idea that Trump is seen as a “moral compass for 20-year-olds in America”.
The outspoken star added: “He annoys me on a multitude of levels. [He] left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair, had kids both times, but he’s the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America.
“Donald, sit and spin, my friend. I don’t enjoy him.”
