Demi Lovato had ‘beautiful’ surprise reunion on Camp Rock 3 set

Camp Rock 3 star Malachi Barton has revealed an emotional moment Demi Lovato had during filming for the movie.

Demi Lovato had an unexpected “beautiful” reunion on the set of Camp Rock 3.

The 34-year-old singer reprised her role as Mitchie Torres in the Disney+ revival of the beloved franchise, and a meeting with new co-star Malachi Barton led to an emotional moment during filming.

Malachi told Entertainment Weekly how his mother, former American Idol contestant Felicia Barton, actually wrote Demi’s song Nightingale from her self-titled album in 2013.

He said: “She has a song called Nightingale on one of her records. My mom wrote that song about my dad, pitched it to her, and she rolled with it.

“My mom was on set with me that day when she was here. She had been moving me in.

“That song came out years and years and years ago, and my mom has never talked to Demi about it, never done anything. They finally were able to [connect].”

Malachi revealed that the pair had a conversation about their connection, while he hailed Demi as “one of the kindest people” he’s met.

He added: “My mom was like, ‘Hey, I wrote that song.’ And she was like, ‘No way. … That song got me through a lot’.

“It was this really beautiful moment. Demi’s awesome. She’s literally one of the kindest people ever. She’s just so fun, so talented, and so cool.

“It’s unreal. That’s a song I grew up listening to. My mom would play it in the studio and I’d be like, ‘That’s a good song, mom.’ Little Malachi!. Then I hear Demi Lovato singing it. I’m like, ‘Oh, Mitchie’s going to sing this song!’ Let’s go.”

Demi recently revealed that she relished the opportunity to return for Camp Rock 3.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Demi explained: “Camp Rock has meant so much to so many people and it’s meant so much to me; this was the beginning of my journey in this industry and Mitchie will always have a huge, special place in my heart.”

Demi – who first found fame as a child, when she starred on the Disney Channel – revealed that she’s offered words of advice to her younger co-stars, including Malachi, Sherry Cola and Liamani Segura.

Demi recalled telling them: “This is going to be a whirlwind and make sure to take breaks if you need them; it’s so important to protect your mental health, and to soak it up and to have fun. That’s the most important part.”
