Emmy Awards: Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root win for Widow’s Bay

Widow’s Bay stars Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root won the Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy Awards.

Kate O’Flynn pledged to celebrate her first Emmy Award win with “sunset cocktails” on Monday (14.09.26).

The 40-year-old actress scooped the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series accolade ahead of her Widow’s Bay co-star Dale Dickey, Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter, Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Michelle Pfeiffer (Margo’s Got Money Troubles) and Jessica Williams (Shrinking) thanks to her portrayal of Patricia Moyer in the comic horror and expressed her gratitude for the “role of a lifetime”.

She said: “Thank you so much. Oh wow, gosh!

“I want to thank all the residents of Widow’s Bay in front of and behind the camera. You’re amazing. This is the role of a lifetime. Thank you, Hiro [Murai] Katie [Dippold] for trusting a sassy broad from Lancashire to play a sassy broad like Patricia. And Apple [TV] for saying yes.

“[I also want to thank] my friends back home and the loves of my life, my darling husband and our darling daughter—another sassy broad in the making—but this is for all the Patrica’s out there.”

In a nod to a line from the show, she quipped: “See you at sunset cocktails to celebrate.”

Her co-star Stephen Root later picked up the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series prize, making the 74-year-old star the oldest winner of the category, and declared himself “thrilled and delighted” to take the honour ahead of Colman Domingo (The Four Seasons), Paul W. Downs (Hacks), Harrison Ford (Shrinking), Nick Offerman (Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Michael Urie (Shrinking) and Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary).

Speaking on stage at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, he said: “I’m thrilled and delighted but the reason I’m here is Katie and Hiro. I have to say it is Matthew Rhys and the brilliant Kate O’Flynn and the comic stylings of these two are the best thing in the 21st century. I was so happy to be included in this journey.

“Thank you to all the nominees, you are incredible. Thank you Harrison Ford because my son came running up to me and said, ‘You’re in a category with Harrison Ford!’ Thank you sir for many years of great, great acting. Thank you everyone from Widow’s Bay, we’re so thrilled. Thank you so, so much.”
