Sarah Michelle Gellar shuts down David Boreanaz ‘kiss’ request

The actress was seen walking the red carpet with her Buffy, the Vampire Slayer castmate at the Emmy Awards, with their arms placed fondly around one another.

Sarah Michelle Gellar hit back at photographers on the Emmy Awards red carpet on Monday (14.09.26), as they asked her to “kiss” her former co-star David Boreanaz.

The actress was seen walking the red carpet with her Buffy, the Vampire Slayer castmate, with their arms placed fondly around one another.

However, things took an awkward turn when one snapper asked the pair to lock lips.

Sarah then replied: “I don’t think his wife would be too happy about that!”

She’s married to Freddie Prinze Jr, while David tied the knot with actress and model Jaime Bergman in 2001.

People took to Reddit to weigh in on the “cringe” moment, with one writing: “V cute but I cringed when one of the photographers taking their pictures asked them to kiss for the cameras. SIRR?”

As another added: “As inappropriate as that photographer was, asking Sarah and David to kiss, the fact that they still come off as an actual couple, after all these years! Also, kudos to Sarah for bringing up David’s wife…”

A third insisted: “I hope he meant ON THE CHEEK?? That’s so awkward.”

But someone else hit back: “I think the photographer may have assumed they were a couple.

“Thankfully Sarah politely intervened and said something along the lines of, ‘his wife wouldn’t appreciate that’.”

During the awards ceremony, Sarah and David took to the stage to present the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie to Matthew Rhys for The Beast in Me.

The pair began by poking fun at the premise of the show, with Sarah saying: “A teenage girl chosen by fate to fight vampires, demons and forces of darkness, and then she falls in love with a vampire with a soul carrying around a couple hundred years of regret.

“A much, much older vampire with a soul and agonising remorse about his past. For those of you who don’t know, his character was 241 years old.”

David, who played Buffy’s on-off love interest Angel in the beloved TV show, then said: “You know, Sarah, I always thought Buffy and Angel would end up together.”

With Sarah pointedly referring to the fact that a pilot for the show reboot hadn’t been picked up as she said: “Well, I guess we won’t find out!”

The pair also paid tribute to their former castmates who had lost their lives in recent years – including Nicholas Brendon, Michelle Trachtenberg and Anthony Stewart Head.

Sarah said: “David and I would like to acknowledge that it has been a tough two years for our beloved cast and crew, and we feel very lucky to have known and worked with such amazing people.”
