Although she was touched by the “romantic” gesture of husband Benny Blanco sailing from the US to the UK to be with her for her birthday, Selena Gomez found it “stressful” because she was so worried about him.
Selena Gomez found it “stressful” when Benny Blanco sailed from the US to the UK to see her for her birthday.
The 38-year-old producer has a fear of flying but was determined to see his wife on her big day, so travelled across the Atlantic by boat, and while the Only Murders in the Building actress found the gesture “very romantic”, she was constantly worried about him.
She told People magazine: “I wish he was flying right now, but he doesn’t fly.
“He took a boat to see me in London [this summer when I was working]. It’s very romantic, but also equally stressful if you’re the wife. You’re just hoping he’s safe. I have a handkerchief, I’m crying, I’m waving him off and [sings] ‘I’ll be saving you…’ Yeah, it’s my life.”
Benny and Selena also took a short vacation in Tuscany, Italy, at that time and the Rare Beauty founder couldn’t have asked for a better birthday.
She said: “That was a great day off. That was my vacation. We got five days to be together, so Benny and I ate a lot of pasta. I spent my birthday with just him, and it was just so easy. He’s just so precious. I loved it.”
The couple celebrate their first wedding anniversary this month and Selena, 34, couldn’t be happier.
She gushed: “We’re still in the honeymoon stage. It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that genuinely listens and meets you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like. I need him, and I love him. He is a very joyful human: fun, spontaneous and he loves to talk.”
Benny has transformed his wife’s outlook on life for the better.
Asked if she’s adopted anything about the way he approaches life, Selena said: “Yeah, stop overthinking and be a little bit more confident. That’s something he doesn’t pressure me to be. He just inspires me to be that.”
The Single Soon hitmaker has adopted a more “peaceful” way of life in recent years and is grateful for the balance she’s achieved.
She said: “When I was younger, I felt like it was 90 miles an hour. It was fun, but I only felt good when I would work.
“Now I genuinely take time to appreciate my life, so yes, I’ve been busy but I’ve balanced it really well.
“I love where I am now. I feel very lucky, and I enjoy every day.”
