Movie star Ashley Tisdale has opened up about her struggles with postpartum depression.
Ashley Tisdale “tried to divorce” husband Christopher French “so many times” amid her struggle with postpartum depression.
The 41-year-old actress has been married to Christopher, 44, since 2014, and Ashley admits that her postpartum depression almost derailed their marriage.
Speaking to her husband, Ashley – who has Jupiter, five, and Emerson, two, with the composer – said on the Recovering podcast: “You dealt with a lot of that and we had difficulty during that first year.
“I tried to divorce you so many times. But you’re so grounded and calm and knew to just let it blow over.”
The Hollywood star admitted to feeling completely lost after giving birth to Jupiter.
She said: “I was so proud of myself for dealing with the anxiety stuff and being like, ‘OK, now I am ready to have a child because I feel like I’m equipped emotionally to be able to do that’.
“But then I got hit with postpartum depression which is really hormonal and all the tools that I learned and knew to use, you can’t use.”
Ashley also recalled suffering panic attacks around that time.
The actress explained: “It was very intense.
“I remember being in a car and almost having a panic attack just being in traffic and then nobody was diagnosing me with it, too.”
Ashley was cleared of depression around Jupiter’s second birthday, and she remembers a weight being lifted off of her shoulders.
She said: “I remember feeling so much better when the two-year birthday came and she was like, ‘Oh, you had postpartum depression’. I was like, ‘What? How did you not know to tell me this?’ I was just like, ‘Man, that’s crazy’.”
Meanwhile, Ashley previously admitted that motherhood has changed her life in “so many ways”.
The actress explained that motherhood has been the “best time” of her life so far.
She told People: “I definitely love it. Obviously it’s my favourite thing, and it’s changed my life in so many ways. I think it’s been the best time, and I’m so grateful.”
