Pamela Anderson has revealed her mother warned her to stop wearing make-up when she hit her 30s because it “skins into your wrinkles”.
Pamela Anderson was told to stop wearing make-up when she hit her 30s because it “skins into your wrinkles”.
The Baywatch star has rebelled against traditional beauty standards in recent years by rejecting make-up for red carpet events and she’s now revealed her mother told her to ditch cosmetics years ago because she was convinced it can make you look worse instead of better.
Pamela, 59, told WWD: “My mom told me a long time ago: ‘In your 30s, you won’t wear makeup on your skin because it sinks into your wrinkles.’
“I remember hearing that, and I didn’t even think about that until I just had coffee with her, and I was sitting there looking at her, thinking: ‘You don’t wear any make-up on your skin.’
“And she goes: ‘No, I would never’. I’ve been doing this [not wearing make-up], thinking I’m this rebellious person.”
Pamela added of her new routine: “I just think that your skin looks better without anything on it, and it takes less time, too …
“People are always going to have something to say. But if your skin looks good, you can do what you want. That’s the basis of everything: under make-up, or alone, or putting it all together.
“Skin care has given me the confidence to try little things, like I said. It’s not like I’m against make-up. I just feel like in my personal life, I prefer not to wear so much.”
Pamela previously joked she “jumped off the crazy train” by ditching make-up, telling PEOPLE: “I just kind of could see something culturally and I thought, ‘I want to jump off the crazy train. I want to be one of the first ones to jump off the crazy train and just peel it back and see what’s going on’.”
The actress added she has gained “so much more confidence” since choosing not to wear cosmetics but admits rejecting beauty products wasn’t an easy decision.
She explained: “It’s a choice. You do have to work on it. It’s a practice to be confident going out of the house with or without make-up.”
However, The Naked Gun actress insisted she wouldn’t advise her younger self to forego make-up, adding: “That’s the thing. You look back in hindsight, after having some life experience, you can look back and see yourself. But I mean, I don’t know if I’d give her any advice.
“You have to discover for yourself, and I would’ve had to discover for myself.”
