Emily Osment played Mandy McAllister, the love interest of Montana Jordan’s character, Georgie Cooper, on Young Sheldon.
Emily Osment felt “uncomfortable” filming kissing scenes with then-18-year-old Montana Jordan on Young Sheldon, as she was 30 when she joined the CBS sitcom.
The actress was introduced as Mandy McAllister, the love interest of Jordan’s character, Georgie Cooper, on the prequel to The Big Bang Theory from January 2022 until the series ended in May 2024.
And Emily requested an intimacy coordinator for when they shot kissing scenes because she was “concerned” about their 12-year age gap.
The entertainer, now 34, made the revelation in Jessica Radloff’s new book Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy.
Per Variety, Emily said: “That made me uncomfortable. He was a baby! A baby with a mullet.”
Referring to Young Sheldon’s producer, she continued: “So I spoke to Tim Marx, and obviously they were not able to get one that late in the day, but for the next few episodes they had one there, since the relationship between them escalates.
“It made everything easier having one there. I think it’s something that’s really important.”
Ultimately, Emily wanted to ensure Montana, now 23, felt comfortable, too.
She added: “I don’t know if Montana even knew if he could ask for that. Like, let’s give him the option, too. Make him comfortable.
“And he’s such a sweet kid, I think he would just eat his discomfort.
“But I love those guys, and I’m really happy it got to the point where they were able to do that [for us].”
As the co-stars had no sex scenes on Young Sheldon, director Alex Reid, 61, acknowledged the crew “totally dropped the ball” while shooting their kissing scenes.
Speaking in the book, he said: “I have a photo between takes of them sitting in that car when we shot that, and they’re looking off in other directions.
“I showed it to Emily and she said, ‘Yeah, that was so uncomfortable for both of us, because we didn’t know each other.’
“It wasn’t even about the lack of an intimacy coordinator. It’s just you’re having to make out with somebody you just kind of met.
“Obviously they worked that out, and they have a great chemistry now, but that was kind of embarrassing.”
Co-creator Steve Molaro, 54, added Emily had “every right to ask” for an intimacy coordinator, and she eventually felt “comfortable without one”.
Elsewhere in the book, Emily revealed that wearing an almost 13-pound prosthetic pregnancy bump for up to 12 hours on Young Sheldon left her with a “cracked rib”.
Mandy gave birth to her and Georgie’s daughter Constance “CeeCee” Cooper in the season six episode A Launch Party and a Whole Human Being.
It comes after Georgie, Sheldon’s (Iain Armitage’s) older brother, got Mandy pregnant when he was just 17 and she was 29.
When they first met, Georgie lied about his age, claiming he was 21. Mandy also lied, saying she was 25.
The truth came out after they started dating, and Mandy subsequently found out she was pregnant with CeeCee.
Their story spawned the spin-off Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, which first aired on CBS in October 2024, five months after Young Sheldon ended its seven-year run.
