Noah Wyle was asked to inspect a fan’s surgical scar during a date night with his wife.
The 55-year-old actor – who has Owen, 23, and Auden, 21, from his marriage to Tracy Warbin and 11-year-old Frances with spouse Sara Wells – can currently be seen playing Dr Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch on medical drama The Pitt and played Dr. John Carter in E.R. from 1994 until 2006, so has grown used to viewers expecting him to also have medical knowledge as a result of the high-profile roles.
Speaking to People magazine after being named the publication’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2026, he said: “The other night I was sitting in this restaurant with my wife and another couple, and this older couple came to the table, and they said, ‘We love The Pitt. We haven’t missed an episode. I just had surgery. Would you mind taking a look?’
“And she rolled up her pant leg and showed me the freshest stitches I’ve seen in a long time.
“And I said, ‘It looks like it’s healing nicely. Are you putting full weight on it?’ My wife’s like, ‘Are you doing this right now?’ “
Asked if people think he’s an actual doctor, he quipped: “Oh, absolutely. And occasionally I do too.”
Despite his fame and new title as Sexiest Man Alive, Noah isn’t afraid to muck in with household chores and particularly enjoys washing dishes.
Describing a typical day, he said: “I usually make breakfast for my wife and my daughter. I have a daily journal practice. I try to exercise a little bit every day. I do Pilates or kettle-bells, and I take my dogs for a walk. I try to read a little bit every day. Try not to scroll too much on my phone. But I rarely get a day off.
“I am the dish maven. The sink is my domain. And I would recommend more guys get into the dishwashing, because it’s very therapeutic.”
Noah also revealed fatherhood led to him quitting E.R. because he hated the idea of being away from his family so much.
He said: “[Becoming a dad] was the most life-changing event in my life. They handed my son to me, and I was like, ‘Now I get it. It’s not about me, it’s about you.’
“That’s when I quit E.R.. He was born on, like, a Tuesday. I went to work on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, spent time with him for the first time on Saturday, went back to work the following Monday and was looking at my watch, going, ‘Come on, what are we doing?’
“I’d never tried to rush through work to get home, and I thought, ‘Well, where do you want to be?’ So I tendered my resignation.
“I called it a divorce with visitation rights and came back for the finale.”
