David Zayas, who plays Angel Batista in Dexter, has admitted his own mother was surprised by how much she enjoyed the series.
Dexter star David Zayas has admitted his mother was surprised by how much she “loved” the title character.
The 64-year-old actor, who has played Angel Batista since for almost two decades across the original eight seasons and both the New Blood and Resurrection revivals, noted his mother took some convincing to give the show a chance,
He told Entertainment Weekly: “My mother said, ‘I can’t watch the show, it’s too bloody,’ and I said, ‘Just watch it because I’m on it.’
“She started watching and goes, ‘I’ve grown to love Dexter, and I understand why he does certain things.’
She was very clear in saying, ‘I don’t condone it!’”
Michael C. Hall, who stars as Dexter Morgan, admitted having his voiceover narrate the series “subtly implicates the audience” by convincing them to root for the vigilante serial killer.
James Remar plays Dexter’s late father Harry, who appears as a figment of his imagination after passing down a code on who he was allowed to murder.
Remar said: “Everybody agrees that the people he kills deserve it.
“You can be against capital punishment, but no one seems to have a problem with these people disappearing.
“If they’re killing little kids or innocent women and a car hits them, that’s kinda too f****** bad.”
Dexter returns this week with the second season of Resurrection.
The trailer for the second season shows an older and wiser version of the title character, who finds himself in at a difficult crossroads.
The logline teases: “[He’s] caught between two killers – one with decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him, and the other a fresh young face terrorising New York in ways no one has ever seen.
“Meanwhile, Dexter battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis. Harrison [Jack Alcott] continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet.”
