Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill reuniting for 24 Jump Street – report

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill first teamed up in 2012’s 21 Jump Street – based on the TV series which ran from 1987 to 1991 – playing fledgling police officers as they went undercover at a high school to infiltrate a drug ring.

Channing Tatum is reportedly in talks to reunite with Jonah Hill and Ice Cube on 24 Jump Street.

The 46-year-old actor starred as cop Jenko in 2012’s 21 Jump Street – based on the TV series which ran from 1987 to 1991 – with Hill playing his police buddy Schmidt as they went undercover at a high school to infiltrate a drug ring.

The pair reprised their roles for 22 Jump Street in 2014, and now Variety has reported that they’re set to return for a new movie followup – somewhat bizarrely titled 24 Jump Street.

According to the outlet, Rodney Rothman is set to direct the film, from a script he co-wrote with Hill and Meghan Molloy.

Tatum and Hill will also produce the movie, alongside Reid Carolin and Matt Dines, while Phil Lord and Chris Miller – who co-directed the first two movies – will return to produce the next instalment.

22 Jump Street followed Jenko and Schmidt as they were assigned to a police case on a college campus, but when it was released in 2014, Tatum admitted he was unsure about a potential third film in the franchise.

He told USA Today: “I feel like that would be a cop-out. College was the obvious next step for us. We had to go there. I don’t know what the next step is after college. Do we go and take down Enron? Or the government in D.C.? I feel like it’s all redundant.”

Meanwhile, speaking about 22 Jump Street in 2012, Hill teased: I’d say it’s the funniest movie I’ve ever been in – that and Superbad. it’s like a two-hour or hour-and-a-half party.”

The role marked the first comedic outing for Channing, who admitted he was somewhat apprehensive about venturing into the genre.

He told CBSNews: “People don’t usually call me for comedies. I was like ‘Alright but only if you promise to make me funny.”

While Jonah told the outlet that he had made a bet with Channing while the actor was working on his 2012 movie The Vow, telling him: “I promise you’ll be great. You’ll be hilarious and if not you can beat me up.”

Jonah added: “Comedy is truth, it’s honesty. The stuff that is really funny is stuff that everyone can relate to on a human level.

“He’s a really sensitive, honest human being and I think that’s why he was great in this movie and is a great actor.”
