Sense and Sensibility star Daisy Edgar Jones’ makeup artist Jo Baker has opened up on her work with the actress.
Daisy Edgar Jones’ makeup artist feels like “the mama bear” when she creates her red carpet looks.
Jo Baker, who has launched a new collaboration with Estée Lauder inspired by the actress’ role in Sense and Sensibility, has been asked which side of the spectrum she’s on.
The makeup artist told WWD: “I always lean a little bit more sensibility.
“Working with Daisy [Edgar-Jones], who’s a little sweet and young, I feel like I’m the mama bear that’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s go for a little extra blush and a bit of feeling and mood and pigment in your look.’”
Jo noted that she works “very much in unison” with Bryce Scarlett and Dani Michelle, who take charge of Daisy’s hair and fashion for her red carpet appearances.
She explained: “It always starts with what [Edgar-Jones] is wearing. Is it an archival piece? Is it fresh off the runway? Was this custom made for her?
“All of those things go into account when you’re thinking about how we’re building this look for the carpet.”
Daisy recently appeared in a Chloé by Stella McCartney outfit from 1999, which felt nostalgic for the makeup artist.
She said: “It took me back to that kind of era that was my late teens in London. Stella McCartney designed that collection, and so I felt so close to it.
“I thought, ‘What was I wearing back then? What was I feeling?’ and trying to bring a little bit of that ‘regressional’ teen spirit forward.”
Daisy previously opened up about her evolving style and taking more risks whilst staying true to herself.
She told Harper’s Bazaar UK: “I am really enjoying becoming more sure of what I feel good in and what I want to wear – and Dani is so amazing. She really can read my mind and she is so good at understanding what I am feeling or wanting, she just knows in essence what is going to work.”
For Daisy, it’s important that she is still staying comfortable and true to herself.
She added: “I wish I could tell my younger self, who just wore any old thing in the wardrobe on Zoom, that those pictures would be on the Internet forever.
“I really love dressing up, I love fashion and playing around with style, and I think I am becoming more and more confident with pushing it but still feeling like myself.”
